Upper School Drawing and Painting Class Collaborates with Literature Class

Mr. Blanco’s Studio Practice in Drawing and Painting class collaborated with Dr. Hicks’s Literature class to engage in an interdisciplinary study of how artists and writers utilize metaphor to evoke tension and emotion.  After analyzing Wallace Steven’s poem “The Emperor of Ice Cream” and art influenced by English Romantics and French Symbolists, students brainstormed cultural metaphors of time through images, texts, and collage.  Currently, the students are working on creating their own metaphors of time in a medium of their choice.
