As part of an ongoing project to innovate and enhance the Global Studies curriculum within the Department of Social Sciences, several faculty members and students recently traveled to San Francisco to present at the 33rd World History Association Annual Meeting. Our students and faculty returned inspired and with new ideas for the upcoming school year.
Presenters at the conference included Upper School History teacher Dr. Amy Pozza, Director of Debate Matt Reichle, UTSA professor Anne Hardgrove, and Form 12 students Rusham Goyal, Sophia Nelson, and Helen Trottmann. Our faculty and students presented their research on interrogating textbooks, using debate as a formative assessment, and implementing Model United Nations simulations in the classroom to facilitate deeper learning.
“It was an amazing experience,” said Dr. Pozza. “Our students represented themselves so well, and I have new inquiry-based lesson plans and resources for my classes this year!”
