Saint Mary's Hall Students Win Scholastic Arts and Writing Awards

In March, the Scholastic Arts & Writing Awards honored four Saint Mary's Hall students with national medals. The recipients and their awards are as follows:

  • Sophie Jaafar (Form 11 ) won a gold medal for her critical essay, The Unjust Accusation;
  • Sarah Dickerson (Form 12) won a silver medal for their critical essay, The Lost Girl;
  • Aspen Johnson (Form 11) won a silver medal for her artwork, Stone Scissors;
  • Sofia Prestigiacomo (Form 12) won a silver medal for her artwork, A Boy and a Fire.

Students across the country submitted nearly 320,000 original works this year in 29 different categories of art and writing. Through the awards program, teens in grades 7–12 (ages 13 and up) from public, private, or home schools can apply for their chance to earn scholarships and have their works exhibited and published.

Since 1923, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards have recognized the vision, ingenuity, and talent of the nation's youth. The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are presented by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to identify students with exceptional artistic and literary talent. The organization presents their remarkable work to the world through the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards; these awards provide students opportunities for recognition, exhibition, publication, and scholarships.
