Pinhole Photography Project

Pinhole Photography Project

Upper School students in the Darkroom Photography class used pinhole cameras derived from vintage oatmeal containers to capture iconic views of the SMH campus.

Using the principles of the camera obscura, the light enters the camera through a pinhole in the front and is projected onto the light sensitive paper inside the camera.  The exposures for our project ranged from 30 seconds to several hours, depending on lighting conditions.  Once the paper was processed through a series of chemicals, a negative image was produced.

This paper negative was then used to print positive versions of the images.
