A Glimpse into College Admissions: SMH Welcomes Reverse Advisory Board

Last week, our College Counseling Office welcomed ten college admissions representatives from across the country for our annual Reverse Advisory Board (RAB). These esteemed professionals spent their time here speaking with myriad constituents to gain insight into our community and the work we do. They also led a case studies program for juniors and their parents. This exercise in reviewing applications - with a college representative - provides students and parents with invaluable insight into the world of college admissions.

"The reverse advisory council session was truly one of the most impressive events I've attended in my time at Saint Mary's Hall," said parent Mary Herff. "The experience was knowledge-building, impactful, and motivating for both students and parents. We walked away less fearful and stronger, with helpful insights into approaching the college application process."

Now in its third year at SMH, the RAB will provide feedback to College Counseling on our programming, supporting documents, etc., so that SMH can represent our students and our School as effectively as possible.

We are so grateful to this year's RAB members:

  • Jonathan Williams, Vice President and Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid, Pomona College
  • Deb Johns, Assistant Vice President for Undergraduate Admissions, University of Notre Dame
  • Karen Vargas, Dean of Admissions, Wake Forest University
  • Justin Doty, Dean of Admissions, Trinity University
  • Kent Rinehart, Associate Vice President of Enrollment/Dean of Admission, Marist University
  • Tim Fields, Senior Associate Dean, Emory University
  • Miya Walker, Director of Admission, Agnes Scott College
  • Melissa Falk, Associate Vice President and Dean of Admission, University of Richmond
  • Zach Lozano, Southern Regional Admissions Recruitment Coordinator, University of Michigan
  • Rebecca Drewry, Senior Associate Director of Admissions, College of Charleston

Many thanks to this year’s RAB for spending time with our students, parents, faculty and staff. Thank you also to all of the students and parents who participated in the Case Studies Program and the TACAC Regional College Fair, which also took place on campus during this time. And finally, thank you to our incredible college counseling team for this innovative, powerful programming!
