The Alvarez Scholarship

Saint Mary’s Hall offers study abroad programs to rising juniors and seniors. The history of study abroad at SMH dates back to 2001 when current SMH board member and former parent Mr. Carlos Alvarez introduced the idea of School Year Abroad.

His proposal inspired the creation of the Carlos and Malu Alvarez Center for International Studies, and led to the establishment of the Alvarez Scholarship.

The Alvarez Scholarship is a merit-based scholarship available to two students per year who have been accepted to SYA. The students receiving the scholarships are responsible for covering their portion of the SYA tuition. All Saint Mary’s Hall students who apply to SYA are eligible to be considered for the Alvarez Scholarship.

The scholarship is a one-time offer and may be used only at an SYA school. Any student accepting the scholarship does so with the understanding that student SYA information, including academic progress, will be shared with the scholarship foundation.
