Wellness in Lower School

Wellness in the Lower School is multi-faceted. During physical education classes, coaches help students develop their bodies physically and discuss different health topics such as healthy lungs, good hygiene, and good nutrition. At lunch, all students are encouraged to try new foods and to have "colorful" plates with fruits and vegetables. Emotionally, students as young as Montessori are taught to use their words to describe their feelings and to recognize the feelings of others. Students are taught to care for their own needs, the needs of others, and for their learning environment.

As part of the many Lower School wellness initiatives, students in Forms 1-5 classrooms practice relaxation and breathing techniques. Under the guidance of the Lower School counselor, students quickly learn to apply these techniques to real life situations. The Lower School is considering integrating evidence-based social and emotional learning programs to enhance wellness offerings to our students.
