More Than Just Theory

Through thought-provoking field trips and visits from guest artists to campus, students learn how the arts can transcend their lives as students beyond SMH.

  • Visiting Musicians Furnish Professional Experience SMH music students gain experience from not only faculty members, but also from leading professionals in the community. Students refine their musical passions through internationally renowned guest artist residencies such as Maestro Conductor David Wroe, percussionist Eric Peterson (a nationally recognized member of various orchestras and symphonies), and cellist Aurelia Rocha (an expert in the field of arts and social justice education).

  • A Taste of Showbiz for Musicians Whether students are partaking in unique performances or performing themselves, a whole new world opens up for them. This one of the greatest ways for students to experience music outside of the rehearsal room.  Upper School music students get a taste of the “showbiz” life with performances at Walt Disney World and at the New Orleans Jazz National Historic Park. As part of their travels, students also attend customized workshops led by professionals to strengthen their artistic growth, musicianship, and performance skills.
