Budgeting, Financials, and Tuition

Like all families, businesses, and not-for-profits, Saint Mary’s Hall has experienced negative financial ramifications due to COVID-19. Tuition alone does not cover the total cost of a Saint Mary’s Hall education, and we rely on philanthropy from our community. The SMH Fund and the Endowment make a significant impact on the lives of our students and the day-to-day programming offered by faculty. The SMH community continues to demonstrate its commitment to our mission through their generous support.  While we face great uncertainty this year, thanks to the support of our parents, alumni, faculty, parents of alumni, and grandparents, our school is positioned to weather the global pandemic. The Board of Trustees has also committed to going above and beyond to support needs that arise due to COVID-19 and support professional development and other need that will strengthen our planning for the fall.

As we prepare for this new academic year and plan in earnest for our short and long-term future, we want you to know that we continue to routinely monitor and scrutinize our expenses. Our ability to successfully deliver our mission relies upon providing families access to the most exceptional team of faculty and educational administrators. Please note that faculty and staff, who define the SMH experience, account for the majority of our operating budget.

With the change in our day-to-day academic program this fall, SMH pledges to continue to review our budget and any potential savings around specific programs, events, food services, and other costs that may result due to virtual versus on-campus learning, and provide appropriate refunds where possible.
