Our Varsity Girls team started off the day with all eight Lady Barons lining up for this 2.03-mile race that consisted of 12 schools and 95 runners that were UIL 4A below in size. When it was over we had four medalists from the top 20 which included Micah M. in 2nd place in a time of 12:33, Ellie S. in 7th place at 13:24, Hannah R. in 13th place at 13:52, and Peyton W. in 17th place at 14:05. Rounding out the scoring for the team was our fifth finisher Emma M. in 24th at 14:24, and our tie breakers Merri R. in 27th at 14:35 and Lela T. in 28th at 14:37. Also in the race and finishing very well was Rachel Z. in 40th at 15:11 and Brielle B. in 52nd at 15:50. Our ladies were able to finish in 2nd place overall with only 55 points scored, another outstanding accomplishment.

Our Barons Varsity Men's team took to the start line next in a race of over 120 competitors and definitely turned heads with Augie C. winning the race in 10:48, close behind him was the trio of Park H. in 7th at 11:34, Colston B. in 9th at 11:39, and Veeraj B. in 11th at 11:46; all of which medaled and were noticed by TXMilesplit who interviewed the six members of the Varsity boys team after their race. Also included in this performance were Harry X., who finished 52nd in 13:43 and Jack W. in 93rd at 15:13. The Varsity Boys scored 77 points for fourth place overall in a very tight scoring battle.

Later in the morning the rest of the boys ran in a combined 6A-1A JV event with over 250 in the race. Our JV boys were led by Adam R. who finished 115th in 14:35, Ethan A. 125th in 14:46, and Alton L. in 132nd at 14:58. Also in the race and representing the Barons was Michael P. finishing 173rd with a time of 15:53, Asher C. 203rd in 16:32, Wiley M. 217 in 16:58 and Adam B. 229th in 17:25. One of the most spectacular days in recent history for the SMH Cross Country program!

In the Boys Varsity race Augie C. finished 1st as he once again got out to an early lead and crossed the finish line over 30 seconds faster than the second-place finisher in a time of 16.18.3; which is less than one second off the SMH record set in 2009 of 16:17.60! Colston B. was the next Baron to cross the finish line in 3rd place running the race in a time of 16:54 for his first ever sub 17:00 race finish. Also running in this division was Ryan L. who finished 39th overall in 20:48; Ethan A. taking 40th in 21.07 and Jack W. 43rd in 22:20.

Although we don't have the JV boys' times yet, we do know that our Baron's also had a superb showing in this race too with Adam R. taking 2nd place; he was followed by Alton L. who finished 8th overall; also in the top 15 was Michael P. in 13th and then Asher C. in 15th. Additionally, Andrew B. ran in this race and finished in a very respectable 23rd overall.

The Lady Baron's showed everyone why they are now clearly one of the top 2-mile racing teams in the private or the public-school arena as they took on over six full public-school teams and a few other with less than the required five members for scoring to do something not seen in over 15 years at SMH! The Varsity Girls scored only 16 points, just one point away from a perfect score for a cross-country race! Led once again by Ellie S. who ran the course in a staggering time of 11:41 resetting her 2-mile school record time from only three weeks again to cross the finish line in first place. She was closely followed by Micah M. who ran a personal best time of 11:49 to take 2nd place overall; making the two of them now number one and number two all-time best Baron's XC two-mile runners! Hannah R. came across the finish line next in 3rd place running the course in a time of 12:57, right behind her was Kathryn T. in 4th with a time of 12:59 making it four out of four Baron's with all of them running sub-13-minute times. Next in 7th place overall but 6th in scoring points was Meri R. in a time of 13.18 to set the final score at 16 points. The tie breakers who got in front of every other team's fourth place finishers or better was Emma M. in 9th place with 13:28.20 and then in 10th on a photo finish with Emma was Lela T. in 13.28.60 nearly 20 seconds faster than the 11th place finishers.

Although the JV Lady Baron times are also not known yet like the boys, they no doubt had an additional memorable performance. Being one shy of a full team having just four runners didn't discourage them as they collectively finished the course in a Baron sweep of 1st through 4th place! Payton W. finished first; followed by Rachel Z. in 2nd, 3rd was Janea Streete-Thompson and 4th was Brielle B. All of them taking home medals like all of their Varsity counterparts for a medal "clean sweep" for our Lady Baron's today!

The entire XC team gets a well-deserved weekend off with no race next Saturday but the following weekend they head to Seguin Texas for the Seguin Matador Invitational where they will be facing off with some of the best high school teams in Central and South Texas in their last regular season race before the District Championships.

The quote "What a great day to be a Baron" ringed no true today in the ears of the entire team and their fans at the Seguin Matador Invitational Cross Country Meet at Max Starcke Park in Seguin, Our Lady Barons took to the line with 100 other competitors for a 7:30AM start of the 5A/6A 5K Varsity Girls Division race.

Coming off an unprecedented weekend of a near sweep and records set, they seem to be completely undaunted by the fact that they had lined up with schools that had no less than 8 to 10 times their student body size. When the 3.1-mile race had concluded and the results were posted our ladies were rewarded with the 2nd place team award out of 12 scoring teams and had two ladies in the top 5 finishers!

Led once again by Ellie S. who took 3rd overall in a time of 18:51 and Micah M. who was 4th overall in a time of 19:12, those two are now the fastest ever girls to run the 5K in SMH history! They obliterated the previous record set in 2010 at the SPC Championship by Morgan Addis who held in for 15 years with her 20:04. Not far behind them was Hannah R. who was 21st in a time of 20:47, right behind her was Kathryn T. in 31st place at 21:12. Wrapping up the scoring for the Barons was Lela T. as the fifth Baron to finish in 22:23 at 52nd overall. The other Barons, and tiebreakers in the Varsity Girls 5A/6A division, were Meri R. in 58th at 22:45, Emma M. in 61th at 22:39 and Janea S. in 73rd place at 23:24.

This meet had the best competition they had seen in the regular season.

Our Varsity Boys team also meet with strong competition as they faced off with some of the best 1A-4A teams in Texas. They took to the start line with over 100 competitors with 14 scoring schools regarded as top public and privates school programs in Texas.

Once again, they were led by Augie C. who finished 2nd overall and just a little over 1 second off the winning runner's time! With an amazing 16:35 finish time he's also just seconds away from capturing the SMH school record and is now one of the fastest Freshman in all of TAPPS. The rest of our Barons in the Varsity race were Park H. running an 18:07 for 26th place overall, Veeraj B. at 18:10 for 31st place, Colston B. at 18:13 for 33rd place and wrapping up the top 5 was Harry X. at 20:42 for 86th place. Right behind Harry was Adam R. in 20:43 and Ethan A. recording a 22:07 time.

The Varsity Boys recorded a very respectable sixth-place overall finish against nothing short of the finest competition level of 1A-4A that Texas has to offer.

Wrapping up the day was the Junior Varsity Boys division who recorded some impressive finishes with over 80 athletes in their competition. They were led by Alton L. who took 24th place in a time of 22:04. Next to finish was Jack W. who was 47th overall in a time of 23:32, right behind him was Andrew B. in 51st place in at time of 24:16 and Michael P. in 52nd at 24:16. Wrapping up the JV field of runners was Asher C. in 56th place at 24:26 and Wylie M. at 68th in a time of 26:39.

The next official race for the Barons will be the TAPPS 5A District 3 Championship meet in Victoria where they will start the post season. Following the District meet - the Barons will head back to Waco for the TAPPS State Championship, running it for the final time. Please wish them well as they try to continue their goal of being one of the best programs to ever wear a Baron XC singlet!

Out of our group, SMH went undefeated against each school and won the most games overall which put us as 1st place Group 1. SMH then went into the championship draw against Group 2 winner, Incarnate Word Academy from Corpus Christi.

SMH fought hard to win that championship match but fell a little short in the overall games and ended in 2nd place! Overall, subbing in last minute for a school who dropped out, we played amazingly and gave it our all til the end! SMH - Tennis Courts
Win 10-4

Our SMH Boys Tennis played some great matches this past Monday. Some new lineups and pairings definitely kept everyone on their toes!

Out of 14 total matches played, we came out on top with a W/L ratio of 10/4!!

With some players switching up from singles to doubles or doubles to singles, they kept it together and only 2 of our matches went into a tiebreak. SMH played amazing and kept wanting more, excited for more matches to come!

CHANGED: This event has changed. Rescheduled from 1/29.
