Application process

Students applying for Montessori and Kindergarten for the 2026-2027 school year must be toilet-trained by first day of school and should be the following ages by September 1, 2026:

• Montessori, age 3
• Montessori, age 4
• Kindergarten, age 5

✔ Admission Testing

• Montessori 
  • Applicants will participate in a developmental screening on campus. Before an assessment can be scheduled, children must be at least two years and eight months old and have submitted an application.
• Kindergarten – Form 1 
  • Applicants to Kindergarten & Form 1 will be welcomed to campus to visit a classroom and complete an assessment (testing fees will apply). Before an assessment can be scheduled, an application must be submitted.

✔ Parent Meeting – Scheduled with Joseph Muller, Director of Enrollment Management, upon receipt of an application.

✔ Progress Report – For applicants currently attending preschool. 

✔ Recommendation Forms-Completed by applicant's current teacher(s).

✔ State-Certified Birth Certificate

✔ Immunization Records- Please provide the school with a copy of the applicant's most up-to-date immunization record with documented verification from a physician's office. 

Saint Mary's Hall requires that every student must be vaccinated against vaccine-preventable diseases caused by infectious agents, in accordance with the up-to-date Texas Minimum State Vaccine Requirements for Students Montessori - Form 12. Saint Mary's Hall does not allow vaccine exemption affidavits of any kind.

✔ Admission Testing - If your child’s current school administers the NWEA MAP Growth assessment, please provide us with a copy of the MAP Family Report or Student Progress Report. This will serve as our primary measure of academic achievement and growth.

  MAP Growth is a trusted tool used in schools across the country to measure student achievement and growth in math, reading, language usage, and science. Unlike a one-time score, MAP Growth helps us see both where a student is now and how they are progressing over time. It adapts to each child’s performance level, providing a personalized testing experience and meaningful insights into their academic journey.

If your child has not taken the MAP assessment, we will instead require results from the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE).

• Applicants must take the Independent School Entrance Examination (ISEE) for the form level to which they’re applying.
• The ISEE is offered throughout the academic year at many locations in San Antonio and around the United States.

✔ Report Cards - We require final report cards from the previous two school years as well as the most recent report card from the ongoing school year.

✔ Teacher Recommendation Form- Completed by applicant's current teacher(s).

✔ Parent Meeting – Scheduled with Joseph Muller, Director of Enrollment Management, upon receipt of an application.

✔ Immunization Records- Please provide the school with a copy of the applicant's most up-to-date immunization record with documented verification from a physician's office.

✔ Shadow Day Visit – We require our applicants to visit SMH and experience a day in the life of a Lower School Student! Scheduled upon receipt of an application.

• Extracurricular Recommendation – Completed by an adult other than an academic classroom teacher who has worked with your child recently in an activity or special interest enjoyed outside the classroom(e.g. arts, clubs, drama, music, sports, volunteer or paid work, etc.)

✔ Shadow Day Visit and Applicant Interview – We require our applicants to visit and experience a day in the life of a current SMH student!

✔ Parent Meeting – Scheduled with Joseph Muller, Director of Enrollment Management, upon receipt of an application.

✔ Immunization Records- Please provide the school with a copy of the applicant's most up-to-date immunization record with documented verification from a physician's office.
