Position Description

Our School coffee shop, The Baronista, is open during the school’s academic year (August through May).  The Baronista is in need of a flexible, trustworthy and customer-service oriented barista to join our team.  The successful candidate will be responsible for providing exceptional service to our customers, ensuring the coffee shop is clean, tidy and well-stocked, making a wide array of coffee’s, specialty drinks, and smoothies, as well as performing cashiering duties.  During the summer months, this position will work with the Director of Retail Programs to order, collect, sort, and distribute text books to SMH students for the upcoming academic year.  Text book distribution occurs during the school’s annual Baron’s Bazaar day.     


  • Taking orders from customers and dealing with queries
  • Preparing and serving hot and cold drinks such as coffee, tea, smoothies, etc. 
  • Ensuring the displays are always well stocked
  • Managing stock levels and identifying ordering requirements
  • Operate SMH Vehicle or personal vehicle for supply pick up for café needs
  • Cleaning equipment, worksurfaces, and public areas
  • Cash handling and ensuring all sales are processed accurately through POS system
  • Adhering to all food safety regulations and quality controls
  • Work textbook distribution during the summer months
  • Additional duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must have or be willing to obtain a Food Handler’s certification
  • Experience of working with customers (including children), taking orders and dealing with queries
  • Reliable and trustworthy
  • Professional in terms of appearance and approach
  • Familiarity with handling cash or using POS systems
  • Good attention to detail
  • Good level of literacy and numeracy 
  • Ability to work as part of a team and/or individually
  • Pleasant and approachable manner
  • The ability to carry out multiple tasks at once
  • Good communication skills
  • A positive attitude with the ambition to progress
  • Ability to adapt and willing to embrace new ideas and processes
  • Ability/flexibility to work occasional nights and/or Saturdays (school events)


-    High school diploma or equivalent
-    Barista experience preferred
-    Experience in food and beverage preparation and customer service preferred
-    Must have a validate Texas Driver’s License

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

-    Work in an environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of customers and contacts
-    Must be able to exchange accurate communication with customers 
-    Ability to walk, bend, stoop, squat and stand for extended periods 
-    Be able to lift and/or push up to 30 to 50 lbs. 
-    Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled environment  
-    Gross and fine motor skills are required to operate equipment
