Saint Mary’s Hall (SMH) has many rich traditions holding special meaning and significance to the school community. We celebrated one of those honored traditions on November 19, our annual Founders’ Day. Despite the current challenges, SMH was still able to successfully and safely hold Founders’ Day on campus virtually. A number of the community attended, including seniors, with 6 ft. distance between seats and masks worn for safety. The rest of the student body and faculty watched the streamed event from their classrooms and homes.
Friday night lights are back at Saint Mary’s Hall (SMH)! The goals are set high for our varsity football team and SMH soccer star Hunter H. (Form 11) is making her mark as the kicker for the Barons’ six-man team this season. The Barons have clinched a State Quarter-Final playoff berth and Hunter, who has only missed one extra point attempt this season, has helped the team achieve this amazing feat.
Saint Mary’s Hall (SMH) has been abuzz with life, engagement, and bonding in October! Many exciting and enriching activities continue to take place on campus and virtually, including athletics, limbo contests, ping-pong tournaments, Salado Creek hikes, Varsity Athlete Senior Nights, Charlie Brown Day, Mole Day, National Day on Writing, Spirit Week, as well as Fiesta and Halloween festivities, among others. The SMH community is finding creative ways to have fun and connect.
In September, six Saint Mary’s Hall (SMH) students participated in a virtual book talk with U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Sonia Sotomayor. The students were selected based on their involvement in this summer’s study on the criminal justice system and the book, Just Mercy, in Upper School Social Studies Teacher Adrian Viccellio’s class.
Former Upper School Social Studies Teacher Paul Gage, who is beloved by many students, alumni, and colleagues, has been selected for the University of Chicago’s Outstanding Educator Award. Students accepted into the University of Chicago Class of 2024 were asked to nominate an educator who has positively impacted their lives and whose guidance has helped them along the path toward intellectual growth.
