Saint Mary's Hall Boarders Explore San Antonio

The Shield, Fall 2015

Saint Mary’s Hall was founded in 1879, as boarding and day school for girls of all faiths. Often times, the school would arrange activities for the boarders during weekends or holidays so they could explore the city. On this occasion, Patricia Gill Richardson (Class of 1942) and Rosemary Whitehead Jones (Class of 1943), visited the Alamo and Riverwalk. Patricia can be seen pointing at the architecture of the Alamo.

Patricia recognized herself in this photo, and wrote in to tell us that it was her! When asked for more details, she remarked, “That is me in the spring of 1941, pointing at the Alamo! My father was in the Army, so I was a boarding student. We [boarders] often went on trips to museums or the movies on the weekends. I remember that at the time, the Alamo and Riverwalk had been undergoing repairs, and when they were finished we went to see the changes.”
