Music at Saint Mary's Hall

Children who are exposed to music early in their lives often develop improved self-discipline and patience, increased spatial reasoning and math skills, as well as a better understanding for the importance of teamwork.

At Saint Mary’s Hall, programs in voice, strings, band, piano, and other individual instruments allow students the opportunity to discover and nurture their talents while exploring the diverse emotions and feelings that are evoked by performing.

Forming Creative Musicians

Saint Mary’s Hall Lower School music is Orff-centered, which allows students to learn at their own levels of understanding while engaging with the music both physically and mentally. Programs in singing, rhyming, dancing, and playing instruments are designed to stimulate a student’s response to music in multiple ways.

In Middle and Upper School, students can choose from an impressive array of instruments as a member of Band or Orchestra, or stretch their vocal skills in chorus and the Show Choir Vocal Integration Project (VIP).

Through music explorations that involve the use of the student’s voices and bodies, as well as the use of props and instruments, students have the opportunity to express themselves and create a lifelong musical foundation.

Life Becomes a Stage

Each year, music students of all ages test their vocal and instrumental skills in three annual concerts, Grand Day at the Hall, and other performances in and around San Antonio (including Spurs games!)

Many students spend up to seven years developing skills and taking private lessons from local musicians. During this time, students are also given the opportunity to perform on and off campus, as well as compete individually across the state. To further master skills, Saint Mary’s Hall offers private music instruction in piano, voice, guitar, and wind instruments.

More Than Just Theory

At Saint Mary’s Hall, we offer distinctive learning opportunities. By incorporating thought-provoking field trips and inviting impressive guest artists to campus, students learn how being an artist can transcend their lives as students beyond “the Hall.”
