At Saint Mary’s Hall, athletics plays a vital role in the development of our students. More than 80% of Upper and Middle School students play at least one sport and many athletes participate in as many as three sports annually. We produce many college-bound athletes ... who go on to play at colleges and universities such as The University of Texas at Austin, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, Harvard University, University of Notre Dame, and The Ohio State University.

Interscholastic athletics at Saint Mary’s Hall are an integral part of our school’s commitment to developing each student as a person. The Athletic Program instills the classical idea of a “sound mind in a sound body” with a dedication to the lasting values of personal integrity, responsibility, courage, perseverance, sportsmanship, and teamwork. These values benefit students not only for their active participation on Saint Mary’s Hall teams, but also for the rest of their lives.

Saint Mary’s Hall is proud to offer a variety of sports performance camps during the summer months, in conjunction with Summer @ the Hall. These camps are run by SMH varsity head coaches (assisted by student-athletes) to help teach the fundamentals of the game as well as provide insight on how campers can improve their skills. The focus of the camps is to provide quality instruction from our experienced coaching staff.
The camps are open to students at Saint Mary’s Hall and the surrounding San Antonio community. If you are looking to improve your game, take advantage of this great opportunity.
The goal of athletics is to properly prepare student-athletes to maximize their physical potential while reducing the risk of injuries during an athletic season. To help meet this goal, fitness classes are offered during school to Middle and Upper School students, or can be taken as part of after-school strength and conditioning classes. This unique opportunity serves to train athletes in preparation for their upcoming season.
Saint Mary’s Hall is one of a handful of independent schools that employs a full-time licensed athletic trainer. Our trainer works with all levels of student-athletes in injury treatment and rehabilitation. Students also have the opportunity, as an elective class, to work with our professional athletic trainer to learn the kinesthetic aspects of the human body, and to assist the athletic trainer during games.
The Barons' Club is composed of parents and other SMH sports fans who are dedicated to building school spirit and support for athletics throughout the community. They organize three Baron's Days during the school year that recognize the student-athletes participating in each of the athletic seasons – fall, winter, and spring. Members of the Barons’ Club also act as team parents in support of all of the athletic teams at Saint Mary’s Hall.
