Saint Mary's Hall Technology
Vision and Philosophy Committee
Vision: Provide lifelong access to excellence in global curriculum to build the character (integrity proved over time), intellectual capital (academic, artistic, cultural) and personal fitness (social fitness, mental fitness, spiritual fitness, physical health, and physical fitness) for each individual of the SMH community.
Philosophy: Technology is a tool to achieve the mission and vision of Saint Mary's Hall. It must:
1) Be meaningful
a) Adapt to the needs of the SMH community -- all stakeholders, regardless of learning styles or physical attributes, will be able to use the SMH technology to fully realize their potential
b) Add to the quality of learning at SMH -- the integration of technology must supplement the quality of learning at SMH.
2) Be transparent
a) Reliable -- is there when you need it
b) Easy to use -- should have a short learning curve for the SMH community
c) Maintainable -- be flexible to changing requirements of the SMH community.
d) Seamless -- communicate the same experience to SMH students regardless of the location where they activate the learning experience.
e) Integrated into the curriculum -- subservient to the teaching
3) Be a catalyst to support transformation to the vision
a) Mission and vision drive technology implementation -- the SMH school mission and the technology vision guide changes that integrate technology into the curriculum.
b) Curriculum's need drives change -- technology is a force multiplier
Technology Courses
Computer Science and Web Page Design are taught within the Mathematics Department. The use of technology is taught within each course of each department. The Technology Department supports teachers and students in the integration of technology in all aspects of the curriculum. Technology use is expected of each teacher and student.
Within the curriculum of each division and department, all students are expected to incorporate technology on a daily basis. Faculty and staff are also expected to use technology and integrate it into their daily activities. Every teacher and student takes a technology assessment at the end of each year. The use of technology is one factor on which the teachers are assessed and given merit pay.
