College Counseling

Finding the Right Fit

Students in College T-Shirts - College Counseling at Saint Mary's HallFinding and getting accepted into the right college can be daunting. That’s why Saint Mary’s Hall begins familiarizing students with the college admission process as early as Form 9 — guiding students through everything from selecting courses and establishing goals to writing admissions essays, requesting recommendation letters, and practicing interviews.

In addition to attending group college-counseling sessions, all Upper School students meet with counselors for individual and family conferences. Using a broad array of resources, our dedicated, full-time college counselors help students assess their academic and personal strengths to identify colleges that match their needs.

We offer a variety of tools that will aid students as they transition from Saint Mary’s Hall to college:

College Counseling Program

The Saint Mary’s Hall Office of College Counseling includes three full-time college counselors, all committed to helping students and their families through the college search and application process. The office consists of an associate director who supports Form 8 and 9, an associate director who works with Form 10 for their entire sophomore year and Form 11 for the fall semester of their junior year, and a director who leads the department and works with Form 11 during their spring semester through the end of their senior year.

This structure is just one of the many ways in which Saint Mary’s Hall distinguishes itself from other independent schools, and is in line with the school's mission to prepare students for college and fulfillment in life. From their earliest days on campus, students begin building the essential knowledge and skills that prepare them for challenging, higher-level studies in college and beyond.

"My experience this year has been that our College Counseling team clearly strives, at every turn, to make the college application process as seamless and stress-free as possible for the students AND the parents."

Aimee Lock (Class of 1989)

Trustee Member

"The College Counseling team does an amazing job for all our students (and I'm not saying that because my kid got her first choice!). They work very hard to position each student where they will succeed, and they encourage students to explore who they are becoming."

Sallie Guy (Class of 1981)
